Small business sales soar in California in November | RedlionTrader

California has had a strong year so far for sales of small businesses.

California recorded the sales of 1,022 small businesses in November, the highest number sold in that month since 2008.

In November 2011, 952 small companies were sold in California. In November 2010 978 were sold and in November 2009 954 were sold.

According to Dublin?s Business Exchange Network Inc., or BizBen.com, 13,046 small businesses have been sold so far this year (by the end of November), the highest sales volume since 2009, when 13,048 of them were sold in the first 11 months of the year.

Peter Siegel, who started BizBen and is its president, said high sales of small companies ? generally those with a selling price of under a million dollars ? are a positive sign, showing recovery in a market that?s been depressed for several years. For comparison, 2008 had 19,885 small business sales in the first 11 months.

According to BizBen?s data, 62 small companies were sold in Alameda County in November, 29 in Contra Costa County, one in Marin County, 18 in San Francisco, 20 in San Mateo County and 57 in Santa Clara County.

Siegel said plenty of people would rather own a business than work in a corporate job in the current economic environment.

He said one particular busy bit of his company?s consulting work is in very small businesses which typically sell for under $100,000, and buyers pay all cash for them.
