Harrow?s float for the New Year?s Day Parade has won ?2,000 for a local charity.
On January 1 Harrow joined 17 other London boroughs in taking part in a parade through central London.
Each float was vying to be judged best in parade and awarded money for its chosen charity.
It has just been announced that Harrow?s entry has won ?2,000 for the Mayor of Harrow?s chosen charity, Age UK Harrow.
The theme of the float was Hats off to Harrow ? A Community United.
It was designed by volunteers and 100 people from community groups across the borough travelled on the float during the parade.
It featured a big trailer showing the London skyline including St Mary?s Church in Harrow on the Hill and Harrow School?s iconic boater hat.
On either side of the float were young people dressed as commuters carrying shapes depicting the way commuters pack onto public transport in the rush hour, representing Harrow?s continuing connection with London.
The Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Nizam Ismail, said: ?I am delighted that our efforts have been recognised with this prize from the organisers, and I am so grateful for the money which will really benefit elderly people in Harrow.
?I would like to thank everybody who took part, and those who helped organise such a spectacular event.?
